World Standards Day 2022 Paper Competition Winners Announced

SES – The Society for Standards Professionals and the U.S. Celebration of World Standards Day Planning Committee presented awards to three parties for winning the World Standards Day Paper Competition on Thursday, October 13, 2022. 

  1. First Place – “Next Generation of Industry Standards,” by Andrew Bank, XSB / SWISS
  2. Second Place – “Student Perspective: Sustaining US Standards Model,” by Purva Gupta, University of Pennsylvania
  3. Third Place – “Flying to Success: How Standards Contribute to the Success of the Aerospace Industry” by Tiffany Guess, The Boeing Company.

All standards professionals were asked to submit papers as a part of the United States Celebration of World Standards Day 2022 using the theme Sustaining the US Standards Model and American Standards Leadership, which recognized how voluntary codes and standards have protected public health, safety, and security; constituted a backbone of commerce; provided the building blocks for innovation; and served as the basis for quality and interoperability for more than a century. Mili Washington, Immediate Past President of SES, member of the U.S. Celebration of World Standards Day Planning Committee, and Chair of the World Standards Day Paper Review Task Group reflects: 

“SES and the World Standards Day Planning Committee are pleased to present the World Standards Day Paper Competition awards to such deserving candidates this year. The submitted papers were all interesting, thought-provoking, well-written, and impactful to the standardization and larger global community. We congratulate all the winners and wish them continued professional success.”
