Award - Leo B. Moore

Leo B. Moore Award

Dr. Moore was Professor Emeritus of Management at the Sloan School of Management of MIT. He received his formal education at MIT in Chemical Engineering and Management. Army service in World War II interrupted his career. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and served as Deputy Director of Signal Intelligence in the European Theater of Operations. After returning from service in 1946 he joined the staff at MIT, and became a member of A. H. Mogensen's staff at his Work Simplification Conferences held in Lake Placid, New York, and Sea Island, Georgia. Between that year and his retirement in 1984, Dr. Moore developed and taught courses on Industrial Standardization.  Dr. Moore passed away in 1993.

Criteria:

This award is presented by invitation of the Board of Directors upon the recommendation of the Awards Committee to recognize for highest achievement, extraordinary contribution, and distinguished service in the field of standardization, and its professional advancement through original research and writing, creative application and development, or professional and public service. Any individual is eligible.


2023 Leo B. Moore Award Recipient:

Alissa Cooper

This award is for highest achievement, extraordinary contribution, and distinguished service in the field of standardization, and its professional advancement through original research and writing, creative application and development, or professional and public service.

 

  This year, the SES Board of Directors nominated Alissa Cooper to receive this distinguished award. Alissa Cooper is Vice President of Ecosystem Engineering and a Fellow at Cisco Systems. She drives long-term technology projects involving technical standards, open source, research, and co-development with industry partners for Cisco’s networking business. She serves on the FCC Technological Advisory Council (TAC), the board of the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS), and the board of The Tor Project.

 

Alissa previously served as Vice President of Technology Policy and Vice President of Technology Standards at Cisco and in a variety of leadership roles in the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), including serving as IETF Chair from 2017 to 2021. At Cisco she was responsible for driving privacy and policy strategy within the company’s portfolio of real-time collaboration products before being appointed as IETF Chair. Prior to joining Cisco, Alissa served as the Chief Computer Scientist at the Center for Democracy and Technology, where she was a leading technology policy advocate on issues related to privacy, net neutrality, and technical standards. Alissa holds a PhD from the Oxford Internet Institute and MS and BS degrees in computer science from Stanford University.
