Abstract:

ISO/IEC JTC 1 is a joint technical committee of the International Organization for Standardization and the International Electrotechnical Commission. Its purpose is to develop, maintain and promote standards in the fields of information technology and Information and Communications Technology. INCITS – the InterNational Committee for Information Technology Standards – is the central U.S. forum dedicated to creating technology standards for the next generation of innovation and also serves as a USNC TAG to ISO/IEC JTC 1.Language and terminology in Standards, procedures, and relevant documentation is a powerful tool for building inclusion and supporting diversity. Inclusive language is effective in promoting respect, reflecting diversity, and avoiding stereotypes. This webinar will provide an overview of ISO/IEC JTC 1 and describe a use case of an SDO, INCITS which incorporated Principles of Inclusive Terminology.

Phil Wennblom

Senior Director of Standards Policy, Intel Corporation

Phil Wennblom is Senior Director of Standards Policy for Intel Corporation. As part of the Government Markets and Trade group, he leads a team that sets Intel standards policy positions and represents Intel in strategic standards setting organizations world-wide.

Phil is currently chair of ISO/IEC JTC 1, a position he has held since October 2017.  Prior to serving as JTC 1 chair, Phil convened the JTC 1 Special Working Group on Management and participated in the JTC 1 Advisory Group (JAG).

Phil has been a member of INCITS since 2002 and served as chairman of the INCITS Executive Board from 2013 through 2017.  He served as chair of the INCITS Finance Board Committee from 2009 until 2013.  Phil served on US delegations to the JTC 1 Plenary from 2005 through 2017and was head of delegation from 2013.

Phil was active in governance of the IEEE Standards Association from 2004 through 2018, serving on the IEEE Standards Association Board of Governors and on the IEEE Standards Association Standards Board.  Phil chaired the Corporate Advisory Group from 2015 through 2017 and the Patent Committee of the Standards Board from 2017 through 2018. 

Phil is a member of the Standardization Policy Committee of the Information Technology Industry Council (ITI) and served as its chair from 2008 through 2017.  He also represented Intel on the board of the United States Information Technology Office (USITO) from 2008 through 2016.
