All standards professionals were asked to submit papers as a part of the United States Celebration of World Standards Day 2022 using the theme Sustaining the US Standards Model and American Standards Leadership, which recognized how voluntary codes and standards have protected public health, safety, and security; constituted a backbone of commerce; provided the building blocks for innovation; and served as the basis for quality and interoperability for more than a century. Third Place – “Energy Standards: Powering Cable’s Success” by Derek DiGiacomo, Chris Bastian, and Mary Heenan of Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers

All standards professionals were asked to submit papers as a part of the United States Celebration of World Standards Day 2021 using the theme Standards for Sustainable Development Goals. Authors were encouraged to think about standards, sustainability, and their growing impact on the global economy. The United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which serve as a "blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all” were at the forefront of the competition and review.

Paper Competition Announced for U.S. Celebration of World Standards Day 2021

Top Prize is $2,500; Submissions are due by September 3

New York, May 27, 2021: In celebration of standards and their significant impact on the world, SES - The Society for Standards Professionals and the U.S. Celebration of World Standards Day Planning Committee will co-sponsor an annual paper competition for individuals in the U.S. standards community. The 2021 paper competition winners will be announced and presented their awards at the U.S. Celebration of World Standards Day, which will be held this year on October 28, 2021.

Authors may select the 2021 World Standards Day theme, Standards for Sustainable Development Goals. Moreover, as the 2020 World Standards Day paper competition was postponed to 2021, paper competition participants may also submit papers based on the 2020 theme, "Protecting the Planet with Standards," or another relevant standards topic. Authors may choose to address topics that are either domestic (U.S.) or international in scope. The paper competition is open to any individual in the private sector, government, or academia, including employees of standards developing organizations. Entrants must reside in the U.S. If employed, they must be employed by a U.S.-based organization and must work at a U.S. location. Co-authorship is permitted.

Three cash prizes are awarded by SES and the World Standards Day Planning Committee for the best papers submitted. The first place winner receives $2,500 and a plaque. Second and third place winners receive $1,000 and $500, respectively, along with a certificate. In addition, the winning papers will be published in the SES journal, Standards Engineering.

All paper contest submissions must be received with an official entry form by midnight September 3, 2021, to admin@ses-standards.org.

SES Announces Partnership with MCI USA

This partnership reflects the commitment of the SES to increase operational efficiencies, enhance member services, elevate education events, and grow the organization’s membership.

SES Signs MOU with Women in Standards

SES - The Society for Standards Professionals announces that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Women in Standards.

Through this agreement, the SES and the Women in Standards continue to raise the visibility of standardization and the development of standards professionals and contributors and will seek opportunities to provide education, resources, and support to the standards community.

The work of the SES and the Women in Standards will include the development of a collection of resources and libraries of skills, education, and capabilities identified as needed to perform as a successful standards professional or contributor (e.g. those working as consensus body members and participating in the development of standards).

Announcing SES Learning Opportunities 2020 Survey - Make Your Voice Heard

SES - The Society for Standards Professionals announces an SES survey to support the SES education program. The SES holds education and self-improvement of members as well as raising the general body of knowledge in the standards community in very high regard.  As a result, SES ensures that online learning resources are available to members. The SES also offers members the opportunity to attend a foundational course on the fundamentals of the standards development life cycle each year.

To support the continued improvement of the SES foundational course the SES is seeking your input on what topics members would most like to learn about.  The SES is committed to providing a worthwhile mix of materials covering theory and practical application which are of greatest value to our members and the community.

2020 SES Student Scholarship Program Winner

SES - The Society for Standards Professionals announces Tyler Kleinsasser as the 2020 SES Student Scholarship Program recipient.

The SES Student Scholarship program recognizes the important role that students play in supporting the standardization industry and increasing awareness of and use of standards. Students must be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate University or College program and use standards in their school curriculum.

The SES Student Scholarship program is supported with help from our 2020 sponsors, Underwriters Laboratories (www.ul.org) and the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (www.iicrc.org).
