This high-energy, information-packed course covers the fundamentals of standards, conformity assessment, and the various processes and business models involved in standards setting and conformity assessment practices. Key Concepts covered include the importance of standards and conformity assessment to global trade, international standards for conformity assessment, and some of the issues and drivers facing today’s standards developers and users. This course is designed to enhance the knowledge of those working with standards and conformity schemes – whether newcomers or seasoned professionals. This course will provide fundamentals along with tools and resources to be used throughout one’s career. Attendees will also earn 15 credits towards the SES Certification program for standards professionals.

Laura Hitchcock is responsible for External Standards Strategy and Policy for The Boeing Company, Seattle, Washington. Laura has over 35 years of diversified experience in standards, standards administration, and management and has held numerous leadership positions with key standards developers including ANSI, ASTM, IEEE, SAE, ASME, and ISO.
Gordon Gillerman, Chief, Standards Services at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), coordinates and advises federal agencies, US industry, and other stakeholders on standards and conformity assessment policy. Gordon is the Public Sector co-chair of ANSI’s Homeland Security Standards Panel, an expert on conformity assessment systems and their link to regulatory and trade issues, and a frequent lecturer on standards, conformity assessment, and regulations.
