About the Webinar:
Technical requirements are increasingly at the core of many trade-related conversations. And it's not just about the World Trade Organization anymore. Eileen Hill will discuss how standards provisions are included in U.S. Free Trade Agreements, and standards issues are featured in a host of bilateral and regional trade initiatives. Examples of this include bilateral commercial dialogues the United States maintains with important trading partners, such as India, China and Brazil, and where the United States is active in regional initiatives including the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
About the Speaker:
Eileen Hill has worked on trade-related standards issues for over 20 years as part of the U.S. Department of Commerce's International Trade Administration (ITA). She first encountered standards while working on U.S.-European commercial relations, working for the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Europe, and as Director of the Office of European Union and Regional Affairs from 1994-2002. From 2002-2013, Ms. Hill concentrated on standards related to processed food safety and quality, and administered a training program for ITA specialists. Since 2013, she has led the Standards Team in Commerce's Office of Standards and Investment Policy where she serves as the International Trade Administration liaison to U.S. Standards Development Organizations and spearheads a program to ensure that ITA offices effectively address standards issues affecting U.S. exports.
Ms. Hill holds a BA in Economics and History from Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts, and an MA in International Relations and Business from American University in Washington, D.C. She also is a graduate of the Commerce Department's Senior Executive Service Candidate Development Program.
