SES and ICES 2014 Conferences Offered Back-to-Back
SES - The Society for Standards Professionals and the International Cooperation for Education about Standardization (ICES) are pleased to announce the co-location of their annual conferences in Canada this year in the nation's capital, Ottawa, Ontario. Both organizations are committed to further developing the standards profession by enhancing the teaching of standardization at universities as well as training of emerging and current standards professionals.
Sonya Bird, current President of SES commented. “SES and ICES both have similar goals in terms of education on standardization. We thought that bringing our conferences together would help us to broaden the horizons of each of our memberships and allow for a fruitful exchange of experiences and ideas.” Erik Puskar, current ICES chair noted “Co-locating our workshops is a great opportunity to build upon our common goals and introduce our members to the work of each organization.”
The SES conference is scheduled to take place on August 12th and 13th. Details about the SES conference and information on how to register can be found at www.ses-standards.org.
Both organizations will explore further collaboration as the opportunities arise. The World Standards Cooperation (WSC) will also be hosting their annual Academia Day in Ottawa following ICES, on Friday, August 15th, thus making for a full week of events with a focus on education and career development in the field of standardization.
The International Cooperation for Education about Standardization (ICES) is a network of individuals and organizations interested in education about standardization. ICES focuses exclusively on this area. ICES is an unregistered informal collaboration that meets annually. The establishment of ICES was prompted by a common desire to promote education about standardization and exchange educational approaches and materials internationally. SES - The Society for Standards Professionals was founded in 1947 as the Standards Engineering Society, a not-for-profit professional membership society dedicated to furthering the knowledge and use of standards and standardization. SES is unique in that it is the only organization in North America committed exclusively to this effort. SES provides a neutral networking forum where standards users and developers can come together to address mutual issues, opportunities, and interests in ways that work to the benefit of everyone involved with, or affected by, standards. The Society’s worldwide membership includes standards developers, users, managers, and information specialists from industry, government, standards developing organizations, trade associations, and academia. SES is the member body for the United States and Canada in the International Federation of Standards Users (IFAN) and accredited by the American National Standards Institute.
