ASEE and How Standards Find Their Way into the Classroom
September 18, 2013 from 1:00 – 2:30pm ET
Free to SES Members; $50 (non-members)
The webinar will be moderated and there will be opportunity for discussion with the presenter.

About the Webinar:
Sustainability entered engineering education in a formal way with the ABET outcomes-based engineering accreditation criteria that were introduced in the mid-1990s and became mandatory for all engineering program in 2001. These criteria also require that "Students must be prepared for engineering practice through a curriculum culminating in a major design experience based on the knowledge and skills acquired in earlier course work and incorporating appropriate engineering standards and multiple realistic constraints." Sustainability is one of the realistic constraints for possible consideration and many of today's graduates can be expected to be familiar with standards as they affect sustainability in their field of engineering. The other constraints are economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, and manufacturability.

This webinar will provide an update on what has happened and is happening in academe and some of the challenges and opportunities in developing standards for sustainability in engineering practice that students and practitioners face.
