About the Webinar:
This webinar will cover two subjects: (1) Highlights of the course for Strategic Standardization offered in the graduate program for Engineering Management, School of Engineering, Catholic University of America, Washington, DC; and (2) a brief history of The Center for Global Standards Analysis from 1999-2010.
The purpose of the Webinar is to share with SES Members many of the most important principles covered in the course for Strategic Standardization, and the strategic insights on standardization developed by The Center for Global Standards Analysis from 1999-2010.
To prepare for this Webinar, it is recommended that participants review the website www.strategicstandards.com, for example, on the website’s Education page, you will find the 2013 curriculum for the course on Strategic Standardization, many of the lectures and documents used in the course, many graduate student research papers, and all 5 surveys conducted by The Center for Global Standards Analysis to develop strategic insights on the field of standardization.
About the Speaker:
Donald E. Purcell is a recognized international expert in the field of private sector global technology standards. For more than 3 decades, he has advised corporations, government departments and agencies, international standards development organizations, and universities on the strategic implications of private sector global technology standards, their potential effects in the global marketplace and their relationship to government standards. Mr. Purcell has served as adjunct faculty at the Catholic University School of Engineering for the graduate course on Strategic Standardization and the Catholic University School of Law for Cyber Law. In the past decade, he has published several articles on the strategic value of standards education and the role of standards in international trade. Mr. Purcell served as President & Chief Operating Officer, Portable Power Equipment Manufacturers Association (1975-99); In-house Counsel, Outdoor Power Equipment Institute (1975-77); and Trial Attorney, U.S. Federal Trade Commission (1972-1975). He is a graduate of the Catholic University School of Law (J.D.1972) and the University of Maryland (B.A.1969). He served in the U.S. Navy as a radarman from 1963-64.
