REACHING FOR THE TOP:  NEW HEIGHTS FOR STANDARDS

The Standards Engineering Society (SES) is pleased to hold its 58th Annual Conference in conjunction with two professional development courses and other events at the Marriott Bloor Yorkville Hotel in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, during August 16-20, 2009.

The Conference itself will be held on Monday and Tuesday, August 17-18.  This year's conference will explore the diversity of issues within the standards community and provide an expert panel of speakers which include the following topics: Green Standards, Professional Certification, Where in the World to Develop Standards, Three Views from the Top: Standards Career Paths, Standards Technology, and Rethinking the Standards Business Model.

Highlights of the Conference include:

  • A Keynote Address by Mr. Rob Steele, Secretary-General, International Organization for Standardization (ISO)
  • Seven relevant and timely moderated sessions with world renowned speakers
  • Continental Breakfasts, Morning and Afternoon Breaks, and Lunches on both days

Professional development courses will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, August 19-20.

  • On Wednesday, August 19, Ms. Diane Thompson will present her much acclaimed course titled, "A Guide to Standards"
  • On Thursday, August 20, Ms. Diane Thompson will present a brand new course titled, "Assessing Conformity to Standards"
  • Continental Breakfasts, Morning and Afternoon Breaks, and Lunches on both days

There will be three social events during the week as follows:

  • On Sunday evening, August 16, everyone is invited to a Special Welcome Reception (no charge)
  • On Monday evening, August 17, everyone is invited to join their colleagues at a special reception and dinner at the world famous Royal Ontario Museum (extra charge)
  • On Tuesday evening, August 18 everyone is invited to join their colleagues at a Baseball game with the Boston Red Sox playing the Toronto Blue Jays (extra charge).
