Title of the Position
Editor, SES Journal
 
Responsibility
The Editor of the SES Journal has overall responsibility for the content and layout of Standards Engineering, the official bimonthly Journal of SES - The Society for Standards Professionals.
 
Duties
-        Solicit feature articles for each issue of the Journal
-        Solicit regular and occasional columns for publication in the Journal, including
        “From the Executive Director”
        “President’s Page”
        Annual report of the Society
        Annual Treasurer’s report
        Annual Conference Program Updates
-        Write short news articles for the “In the News” section of the Journal
-        Write occasional articles and columns, including:
        Highlights of the annual conference
        “Members in the News”
        “Focus On”
        “Coming Attractions”
        World Standards Day report
-        Prepare lists of new members and member anniversaries using input from the Executive Director
-        Write an editorial for each issue of the Journal
-        Write additional content as required
-        Edit all content for the Journal, following recognized editorial standards and in conjunction with the SES Design Guide
        Communicate proposed changes with article author 
-        Source photographs and other graphics for enhancing the content of the Journal
-        Assist with the creation and rotation of SES  advertisements in the Journal
-        Working with outside vendor for layout of the Journal:
         Prepare and submit files for layout by vendor using Adobe InDesign or other approved software
        Review layout and request changes as required
        Review final layout and make final adjustments if required
-        Coordinate the SES Publications Committee Proofreading Subteam for final review
-        Prepare Journal for printing; send Journal to the printer
-        Develop an annual editorial calendar; update as required
-        Adhere to the publication schedule for the Journal
-        Recommend journal enhancements to SES Board of Directors through the Publications Council Director
-        Administer outside requests for copyright materials
-        Participate in the SES Publications Committee and relevant Journal related Subteams
-        Additional duties as assigned
 
Communications
-        Reports to the SES Executive Director
-        Communicates with article authors and contributors of columns for the Journal (Executive Director, President, Treasurer, Awards Committee Chair, Conference Committee Chair)
-        Communicates with other SES Officers, Directors, Chairs, and members as required
-        Is an active member of the SES Publications Committee and relevant Journal related Subteams
 
Qualifications
-        Excellent English language and grammar skills
-        General knowledge of standards and conformity assessment and the standards system in the United States and Canada is required
-        Good organizational skills
-        Good project management skills
-        Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (MS Word and Excel)
-        Knowledge of Adobe InDesign or other publishing software is desirable
-        Knowledge of online/e-publishing publishing applications is desirable
-        Previous experience as an Editor is desirable
 
Compensation
Compensation will be as agreed to between the Editor and SES.
